Here’s where we answer the most common questions we get. You can always contact us if we couldn’t answer your question here.
What do I need to do before I can get a fence/deck installed?
The process will be different for every project, but here’s some typical prerequisites:
Find your property line. You can do this by locating survey pins or getting a property survey.
Decide what type of fence or deck you want. Browse around our products page for more ideas.
Get approval from your Homeowners’ Association. We’re here to help with this entire process. We will provide all necessary project drawings and site plans.
Get a permit from the city, township, or county. We can typically get this permit for you.
Clear any major obstructions. In most cases, we remove your old fence or deck as well as small brush. If you have any large brush, trees, storage sheds or other items near the project area, discuss your options with us.
Get a project plan. We’re here to help you turn dreams and ideas into reality. We will set you up for an estimate and guide you through the remainder of the process.
Aluminum Fence: Rinse with a garden hose. Use a soft cloth or brush with running water to remove dirt.
Vinyl Fence: Rinse with a garden hose. Use a soft cloth or brush with running water to remove dirt. A gentle bleach solution designed for vinyl products can be found at most home improvement and hardware stores, however be sure to follow the fence manufacturer recommendations as well as the instructions on the product label.
Wood Fence: Rinse with a garden hose. Use a scrub brush and running water to remove dirt. Our wood fences are built out of pressure treated or cedar materials. Both of these materials will last a long time outdoors. If you want to give them an extra layer of protection, you can stain the fence. All lumber should be given time to dry out sufficiently. Cedar should be dry about a month after install. Pressure Treated wood should be given about 2 months before staining. If you have any questions about staining your fence, contact us

What kind of fence should I get?

How do I maintain my fence?
We recommend following manufacturer recommendations for maintaining your fence. Here are some helpful tips:
Do you treat fences as well as install them?
No, we only replace or install fences. Contact the manufacturer or installer for recommendations. If we installed your fence, contact customer support at
customersupport@frostfence.com
Do you tear out and haul away old fences? What about trees and brush?
Yes, we do remove and haul away old fences so we can install new ones. However, this does require extra labor, and this is reflected in the final cost. We may also remove small trees and brush, but again, this will be reflected in the final cost. In addition, we don’t tear out old fences or remove brush unless we are installing a new fence on the property. For more information about steps to take before we can install a fence, contact us
How do I maintain my deck?
For engineered building materials such as composite, always follow manufacturer recommendations for cleaning. A rinse with a garden hose is usually sufficient.
To clean pressure treated decks, wash with a garden hose and scrub brush or pressure washer. Deck cleaners are available at most home improvement and hardware stores. Be sure to follow all instructions on the product label.
Before staining pressure treated decks, let freshly installed lumber dry sufficiently. Choose a stain product and color that you like. To prepare the wood for staining, here are some tips: Clean the wood with a deck cleaner (always follow instructions on the product label) and wash with a scrub brush and hose or a pressure washer. Allow the wood to dry for at least 24 hours. You may choose to sand any exposed lettering from the lumber before staining. Rinse again with water and give sufficient time to dry before staining. contact us if you have any questions about the process.
